Hey there! My name is Shan...
I graduated from the University of Georgia in 1996 and started a lake and pond management company. I helped clients stock and manage ponds and small lakes. I specialized in conducting electrofishing surveys to determine fish population balance, capturing fish for tissue analysis, water quality monitoring and controlling aquatic vegetation through the southeastern U.S. I sold a bulk of the company in 2012. I kept a select group of small clients that managed their ponds and lakes for trophy bass.
In 2020 I diversified this small consulting company onto social media to help inform anglers and pond owners about pond and lake management. I called the page Aquatic Biologist and gained 6,000 Instagram followers in 6 months. The success of the social media page led me to doing podcasts. I have been invited speak on many podcasts including Mossy Oak Gamekeepers, Tackle Talk, Big Bass Dreams, Alex Rudd Fishing and several others.
Aquatic Biologist has over 20,000 followers across 3 platforms to date. Helping others understand proper fisheries management has always been my passion. I have really enjoyed helping everyone better understand aquatic environments.
“I thoroughly enjoy getting away from the game and going out fishing because it’s so relaxing, so quiet, and peaceful. I mean, there’s no noise other than nature… and it’s so different from what I do in a tournament situation that it just eases my mind.”
